Monochromatic Color Palette

A monochromatic palette takes a single hue and varies its saturation and lightness. It is the safest harmony there is — nothing can clash — and it hands you a coherent visual identity straight away.

When to use a monochromatic palette

For calm interfaces, marketing sites, dashboards, or anywhere colour should organise the page without competing with the content. Because every shade shares one hue, hierarchy comes for free: the darkest tone for text, the lightest for backgrounds, the middle steps for borders and hover states.

How to build one

Pick a base hue, then generate four to six variations by stepping lightness evenly. Keep enough contrast between text and background — at least 4.5:1 for body copy. In LFColors, lock your base hue and regenerate: only the variations change.
