Generation algorithms inspired by color theory

The idea came while shipping web projects where finding a coherent palette always took too long. LFColors keeps familiar principles, stays free and simple, and offers several algorithms (monochromatic, analogous, complementary, triadic...) for different creative needs.

"Auto" mode builds balanced palettes by looking at how hues, saturations, and lightness relate. Great for a quick first pass, a prototype, or exploring ideas.

What is a color palette?
A color palette is a set of hues chosen to work together. In web and graphic design it brings visual consistency, guides attention and reinforces a brand’s identity. LFColors uses color theory to suggest readable, balanced combinations, usually between 2 and 10 colors.
Is the color palette generator really free?
Yes. LFColors is completely free, with no signup, no generation limit and no watermark. Every export format (CSS, SCSS, Tailwind, Bootstrap, JSON, PDF, hex list) is included. Your palettes are stored in your own browser, not on a server.
How do I use the LFColors palette generator?
Click "Generate random colors" to start straight away, or "Choose my starting colors" to begin from your own hues. Then press the space bar or the Regenerate button to explore new combinations, lock the ones you like, adjust the number of colors, and export.
Which color harmony should I choose?
For a calm interface, pick a monochromatic or analogous harmony. To make a button or call to action stand out, use a complementary pair. If you are unsure, split-complementary is the best compromise: it gives contrast without the risk of clashing. Auto mode tries these rules for you.
What is the difference between HEX, RGB and HSL?
HEX (#3E7CB1) is the most common notation in CSS and design tools. RGB describes the same color through its red, green and blue components, which is handy for transparency via RGBA. HSL describes hue, saturation and lightness, making it the most readable format for building variations of one color. LFColors converts and exports all three.
Are my palettes accessible to people with low vision?
A pleasant palette is not automatically an accessible one. WCAG asks for at least 4.5:1 contrast between body text and its background, and 3:1 for large headings. Always keep one very dark and one very light tone in your palette for those roles, and never convey information through color alone.
