Split-Complementary Color Palette
A split-complementary scheme takes a base hue, then the two neighbours of its complement rather than the complement itself. You keep the contrast but lose the harshness of the strict pair.

The most versatile harmony
It is often the best starting point when you are unsure: three distinct hues, clear contrast, and far less risk of clashing than a pure complementary pair. Brand identities that have to work across many surfaces lean on it constantly.
In practice
Treat the base hue as your dominant colour and split the other two between accents and interactive states. Add one light neutral and one dark neutral and you have a complete interface palette.
