The tetradic palette, also called the rectangle scheme, combines two complementary pairs. It is the richest of the classic harmonies, and the most demanding.

Four hues, one boss
With four strong colours, balance never arrives by itself. Choose a clear dominant, then use the other three as touches. A neutral background is almost always needed to let the set breathe.
Worth knowing
Check the warm/cool split: two complementary pairs usually give you two warm and two cool hues. If all four lean the same way, shift one pair by a few degrees to restore the balance.
